During their Defence careers at the Aircraft Research and Development Unit (ARDU), Jim (Test Pilot) and Pete (Flight Test Engineer) saw a business opportunity to assist the Australian Defence Force in the planning, conduct and reporting of flight test programmes. Following their resignation from ARDU, Nova Aerospace commenced operations in 2000 with the intent of providing the Australian Defence Force and other Government agencies with independent and professional test and evaluation and systems engineering services.
As the business became successful and Nova attracted clients outside of the aerospace sector, the business changed its trading name to Nova Defence to market services to the maritime, land and electronic systems domains within Defence. Nova Systems Consulting Pty Ltd was also formed to capitalise on synergistic opportunities in commercial business sectors.
Since 2005, Nova has sought to balance our growth through both organic growth and acquisitions. In 2007 Nova purchased Auspace, and developed Catalyst Operations Pty Ltd (CatOps) which provides specialised recruitment and contracting services to assist Nova and external clients with people solutions. In 2009, Nova purchased Rapid Ascent Consulting, in 2010 Aeronautical Engineers Australia, and 2011 Panurgem Project Management.
In light of the growing support provided to the commercial sector, Nova Defence and Nova Systems Consulting re-branded to Nova Systems in 2010 to consolidate the consulting arm of Nova. Nova Systems, Auspace, AEA and CatOps have consultants located in Adelaide, Canberra, Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
