Nova Aerospace Purchases Auspace
Nova has purchased 100% of the shares in Auspace Limited from their UK parent
EADS Astrium Limited on 21 December 2007. The purchase has de-coupled Auspace from
the manufacture and distribution of satellite equipment, to allow the new Auspace
to be solely focussed on the provision of professional engineering services relating
to satellite communications. Auspace will provide independent and impartial advice
to Defence, Government and Industry customers.
Auspace will have capabilities in satellite system architecture and systems engineering,
spectrum management, frequency coordination, simulation and modelling. Auspace also
conducts training in space operations and satellite communications. Nick Kemp has
been appointed the transition manager for Auspace until we employ a full time GM
for the company during the 1st quarter of 08
Nova is committed to assisting customers introduce complex capabilities in high
technology sectors. Nova will integrate their operational experience with engineering
expertise in the specialist field of satellite communication engineering to support
the Department of Defence, the Australian Communications and Media Authority and
other clients including Industry.
Auspace is the sole provider of STK software and support services to Australia and
New Zealand. The commercial off-the-shelf analysis software produced by US based
Analytical Graphics Inc. for the national security and space communities enables
the integrated analyses of land, sea, air, and space assets. Key applications include
battlespace management, geospatial intelligence initiatives, space systems and national
defence programs.
The purchase of Auspace fits with Nova’s growth into niche markets and compliments
their core business in the certification and evaluation of complex systems. With
the acquisition of Auspace, Nova provides evaluation expertise in the air, on the
ground, at sea and in space.
A new Auspace website is currently being built which will be available shortly.
Defence to Manage FEDSAT Satellite (Jan 2006)
Australia's only fully owned and operational satellite FEDSAT, built at Auspace's facilities in Canberra and launched in 2002 from Japan, will now be managed by the Department of Defence. Defence Minister Robert Hill said Defence will manage the satellite until December 2008 extending FEDSAT's useful life to the scientific community by three years. It may also be possible to continue operating the satellite beyond that time.
FEDSAT is a small low earth orbit satellite that follows a near polar sun-synchronous orbit. It carries six payloads performing a variety of scientific and engineering research functions related to precision navigation, global communications and space weather science. The extension to the operational use of the satellite confirms its importance to both Defence and the Academic community. The longer than expected operational life also highlights the high standards of engineering applied by Auspace and the members of the Cooperative Research Centre for Satellite Systems (CRCSS) responsible for the FEDSAT initiative. The CRCSS is a joint venture of four Australian companies, six universities and two Government agencies including the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO).

Congratulations to the NIFS Team
(Jan 2006)
Auspace sends its congratulations to the Australian National University NIFS Team for the successful installation and first use of the instrument. The Near-infrared Integral Field Spectrograph (NIFS) recently attached to the Gemini North 8.1 metre telescope in Hawaii, uses a unique optical design to analyse the light from an object allowing astronomers to study phenomena in detail, including the gravitational effects of black holes, the interactions of colliding galaxies, and the formation and death of stars. The original NIFS was destroyed in the January 2003 bushfires. NIFS-2 was rebuilt by Auspace in collaboration with Mt Stromlo designers and engineers. The project was completed in record time with the first images captured only two and half years after the destruction of the original instrument.
